Aqiqah

The wife of the Prophet, Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), is reported to have said:

'The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did the aqeeqah for al-Hasan and al-Husayn on the seventh day, and gave them names.'

Give thanks to Allah

The seventh day following a child's birth is designated for the offering of a goat or sheep as a sacrifice, known as aqiqah. This Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is very significant. To express thanks to Allah for the gift of a child, the sacrifice is made two goats/sheep for a boy and one for a girl. 

A goat or sheep must be of a specific age and in good health in order to be sacrificed as part of the Aqiqah ceremony. Poverty Relief Team sources the highest-quality animal—one with no damaged teeth or horns, for example—in accordance with the Sunnah.

Aqiqah has numerous advantages, such as being a prescribed act of worship, shielding the kids from Shaytan, and, insha'Allah, atoning for your sins. You can complete an Aqiqah for a girl or a boy and perform your act of worship.

An Aqiqah usually takes place on the seventh day after a baby’s birth. However, there’s nothing wrong with doing it at a later time.
